You know that transition you’ve been wanting to make into creative work? The voice inside your head that says, “Why can’t I write The Great American Novel? The magazine article you’ve been dying to pitch or book proposal that’s only half-formed? The script or short story you’ve been telling yourself you would write some day?

The New York Writers Alliance wants to help you make that day TODAY.

Whether you’ve completed the whole manuscript or just have an idea kicking around your head, NYWA offers comprehensive guidance from critically acclaimed writers. We provide consultation and mentoring for those working on novels, short stories of all genres, magazine articles, non-fiction books and proposals.

Our services include, but aren’t limited to:

Manuscript Doctoring:

Depending on your needs, we’ll go over your completed or in-progress manuscript, examining all elements of craft—plot, character development, dialogue, theme, and the other goodies. With detailed line and endnotes, we’ll let you know what you’re doing right and point out everything that could raise a red flag for potential agents and editors. After we finish going over your work, we’ll meet (or chat via phone) to discuss.

Line Editing:

If your manuscript is complete but in need of a little clean up — or you aren’t quite sure if you’ve mixed some modifiers and left a few prepositions dangling — let us proofread the hell out of it for you.

Mentoring:

Need weekly or monthly deadlines to complete a project? Suffering from writer’s block? At page 50 and not sure where to go? NYWA offers personalized coaching that’s tailored to your needs. With regular meetings (in-person or on the phone for those out of the NYC area), we can provide the necessary tools and tips to finish your work.

Publishing Help:

When your project is finished, the battle is only half-won. At this point, some writers wonder if they should submit to publishers directly (no, we implore you, no!) or are so overwhelmed by what they’ve heard that they don’t know how to take the next step to get their work out there. Let us guide you through the marketplace by giving you the lowdown on agents and publishers, and help you to shape your cover letter into the kind that will grab the most attention.

Reasonable rates — hourly or per project. Estimates are given based on sample chapter and word count. Gift certificates of any denomination are available.

We also offer screenplay guidance through partnerships with award-winning screenwriters and screenwriting teachers.
